Is it just me, or does anyone else not like games that have zero progression mechanics? Like, score based mechanics make me ill. I couldn't care less about getting the high score in a game. Achievements are sorta okay, but I'm not playing a game for cheevos I'm playing it to play the damn game.I want what I'm doing to have purpose. I want to get better at the game and therefore get better tools to play the game with. I want to take risks and be rewarded if they work out. I want to feel invested in what I'm doing. I want to feel the unbridled fear that I might lose said investment. I want to explore or have new things thrown at me. That's how I get to 100+ hours in a game, not by trying to squeeze 20 extra points out of the same damn scenario.

@7666 Yeah, I get what you mean. Like, the furthest I'm willing to invest in an "arcade-y" game is roguelikes where you lose progress when you die, but at least you have progression within the same run. I'm okay with something like tetris occasionally, but if I tried to practice for hours on end like some players do, I'd get suicidal and perhaps even a little homicidal. If I'm not getting anywhere new after a while then what the fuck am I doing, I might as well be punching a concrete wall until my knuckles bleed.
