Some of the toys I'm nostalgic about are kind of environmental plastic disasters. I loved these "push pens"But there's no way to refill them. You just have a lot of plastic bits when the lead runs out...I wonder if that could be redesigned...The idea of having a bunch of ready sharp points of lead is nice.

@futurebird I used a Pentel .5mm mechanical pencil during the period when I was still graphing quadratic equations by hand. No, the point was never as sharp as a freshly sharpened wood pencil. However, it never got as dull as a wood pencil either.

@futurebird the closest equivalent i can think of is that some 2.0mm lead holders like the rotring 300 have built-in sharpeners under the button cap instead of an eraser

@futurebird I felt my most Yang as a kid sharpening my pencil with the small blade of my swiss army knife. Not nearly as effective as using the tiny plastic purpose designed tool but very satisfying

@futurebird @blogdiva then graduated to a mechanical pencil in high school. Felt very clever just using one 😝

@futurebird I really wanted to like these for aesthetic reasons but they were outperformed by even the most pedestrian of mechanical pencils.

@futurebird Can't seem to get to your server atm to read the other posts, but I guess I have to ask the question others are probably already asking: why not just a mechanical pencil with fine lead? Some can get pretty fine and I'd argue sharper than those points are for the finest ones.

@futurebird I remember those having a core of the next points and being able to load a little tower of sharp points that fit together into the back? I can't find any internet evidence for this however. As I tell my kids, I grew up in a sea of plastic.

@futurebird Propelling pencils or clutch pencils?
