Never watch movies on tubitv. Even if you PAY to rent a movie it will have ads. $3.99 and they want to show commercials. Totally pointless.

@futurebird Weirdly, when I (in NZ) watch Tubi via US VPN I get no ads.

@futurebird However, I learned a few weeks ago when #Monsterdon was doing Invasion of the Body Snatchers that you can pull movies from Tubi with yt-dlp.

@futurebird I refuse to watch TubiTV because it is a subsidiary of Fox Corporation, helmed by the Murdochs. I won't give those fascists a red cent of my hard-earned money. Not to mention Tubi likely harvests as much personal data from viewers as it can.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_Corporation

@futurebird I haven't checked it in a while, but I did notice that my usual ad blocker on my web browser blocked the ads on tubi before. You might be able to avoid the ads if you access it through a brower with an ad blocker if they didn't "fix" that.

@futurebird @femme_mal I only use them for Internet service. I have no equipment from them in my home (my own cable modem, my own router) and I don't have cable TV service.

@Tracey_Writes People who use internet TV don’t have ad blockers.

@femme_mal I am not kidding when I say it oughta be illegal for internet to be like this. It’s so depressing.

@futurebird Absolutely. It definitely should be illegal. There's been no good excuse for US broadband to suffer so badly in comparison to other smaller countries.Regulatory capture has done this to us.

@futurebird If you pay for a service, it should be ad-free. No exceptions.

@futurebird @femme_mal meanwhile TV itself is turning into the same damn thing... using a remote control with those spongy buttons is bad enough but when they combine it with every bad thing about the UX of a middling streaming service...

@futurebird Thanks for the heads up, myrmepropagandist. I mean, I get it that some of these services need ads to generate revenue. But when I'm watching something, it's because I want to watch it. If an ad pops up, it's probably advertising something I don't want to see..

@futurebird @femme_mal "smart" TVs are truly some of the most ghoulish, inhumane pieces of software on the planetlike the universe from its quantum foam, they are fairly *woven* from eldritch strands of dark patterns, DRM, and surveillanceware
