Dad’s telling stories about how in the olden days if you wanted to “drive around 8th ave” with a good song blasting from your car you had to run out when the radio put the song on and then drive down there right away.Which is something I never considered —but it makes total sense. “kids have it so easy now … you know with …recorded music.”

Apparently the height of 1950s rizz and game was to know the local DJ and get him to put on your girl’s song so it would be playing when you come by to pick her up. Lessons are being taught today.

@futurebird glad people who looked like this had radio as a plausible career option back then.

@futurebird A bit off subject, but not toooo long ago, the car was our "social network". Today's youngsters do mostly catch a bad rap, it's just that today they have different tools.Sounds to me as if your dad was, during those times, indeed a very determined influencer.

@futurebird I mean, I’m 40 years younger than that and I remember cars without tape players!—new cars tended to come with cassette players by the 1980s, but my first car (for example) only had a radio.@trinsec

@futurebird @trinsec this is killing me. Parents were born in the 40s and they most assuredly did not have cassettes. 8 track cartridges were a thing for a minute, but basically it was vinyl. My first few albums were vinyl in the 80s. I don't remember the order in which I got a boom box, Walkman, or started buying cassettes and making mix tapes but my parents were long past trying to rizz anyone by then.
