Saying TRS didn't decline because of the ideas they started pushing is like saying the USSR economy didn't fail because of central planning.

@mute_city @judgedread Yeah, Sven had been intolerable for years before we went mask off, and the constant bad takes they would latch on to and just keep digging, enjoyed the war room, fatherland (or whatever that was called), Umm, the southern guy's show, the one that got fired from little debbie delivery for standing up for a White girl that got mobbed by nogs, ohh Dingo, but those all got purged, was down to just listening to FTN for quite a while, and then that went away, and, there was really nothing left worth listening to on there..

@judgedread Central planning got them nuclear power and a handful of other things, but it sure ages like crap. Very bloody start to enact that as well.

@wired Russians are very smart and tough. Communism underutilized them severely. US managed both nuclear power and a space program without central planning, also our nuclear plants and big rockets didn't blow up.Notworthy that the USSR lost the race to the Moon because their infrastructure was so rickety that they had to assemble the big boy on site, leading to fitting problems, leaks and not one successful launch.

@judgedread seems like a scale problem. NASA is centrally managed in a sense but certainly their supply chain is not.

@wired Government contracts allow the price mechanism to function as far as the various materials and skilled laborers are concerned, avoiding the calculation problem foreseen by Mises.

@judgedread communist ideology assumes one system is an inevitable final result, so having independent contractors in their mind is enabling nazism. Thank God that failed tbh.

@judgedread @wired The success or failure of pretty much every endeavor comes down to incentives. The problem is bureaucracy is designed to create predictable results and conformity. Why strive for excellence when there is no pay incentive and promotions are handed out based on nepotism, etc.?

@DC5FAN The incentive problem is real but the calculation problem is the final boss that defeated communism.

@judgedread It's funny because a large portion of the Fedi wasn't around so they don't remember Communism. They wouldn't believe you if you told them about breadlines and the Stazi.

@judgedread I saw a documentary where Reagan was said to have pushed Star Wars publicly, even though they knew they couldn't build a defense system, purely because he wanted the Soviets to believe we had technology and capabilities beyond theirs.

@DC5FAN @judgedread Long term Reagan will probably be viewed as a bust, but he did overthrow the existing paradigm at the time as he had a single minded focus on defeating the Soviet Union. It‘s unimaginable now, but even as late as the early 80s many in the intelligentsia thought the Soviets would win (as shown by the fact that no one in the West expected its collapse).

@EvilSandmich @judgedread Reagan really wanted to abolish nuclear weapons completely. He definitely deescalated the Cold War. He got suckered on a lot of things but had some successes.

@judgedread @wired One of the N-1’s problems was that it’s NK-15 engines used explosive bolts to open their valves, so the N-1 couldn’t do static fires.
