> Use Sketchup 2017Why isn't the push-pull tool creating solid objects? Why is the square base part of the component for the skids I just extruded? Ugh, I hate what Google did to this once-free software.> Use FreeCADWhy is it so complicated to align objects? Why does it take 8 clicks? What are all these "workbenches"? I just want to stick frame. Ugh, this is too open source.> Use OpenSCADAfter four years of work, I finally have a parametric shed. Unitless? How do I measure in imperial?

@eriner — ugh. I’ve wondered about trying some of those. Doesn’t sound promising. :P

@Richard No, autocad is the only thing I haven't used.I've put the three I've mentioned through their paces (the latter two more recently). FreeCAD and openSCAD are both good. Sketchup 2017 has oddities, but it's the best (fastest) free desktop tool for stick framing that I've found that can change the units to imperial.FreeCAD is functionally locked to metric, and openSCAD is unitless. You can program around it, but the units cannot be changed to imperial on either (AFAIK).

@eriner Maybe I'm missing something, but there is a linear correlation when converting units of length. Can you not, for example, design in cm and know that your actual dimensions are in inches? The unitless CAD program is completely agnostic. @Richard

@black6 @Richard > You can program around itIt's annoying, but you can do it. The problem is the visualization / measurements are all in metric (or unitless). But I'm an American so I want [3.5", 3.5", 9'], not [3.5, 3.5, 108].

@eriner That makes sense, I guess. I've gotten used to just always using inches, so I'm the other way around (rather see 108" instead of 9')

@eriner @DavidB I have used Fusion360 and its relatively easy to use. It does have OS minimum requirements. (Which is why I am not currenly using it.) It is from AutoDesk and they are pushing the "subscribe" model. The limited free version is here: https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal

@eriner Are you using the free web version of SketchUp? This is what I have been using to "design" my projects (well house, shelves for a metal building, deck).Like the free version of Fusion360, they make it hard to find https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal.I have been using FreeCAD for flat (2D) drawings but its a pain in the ass. :(I miss my old (2D) AutoCAD!
