Yeesh, these Babylon 5 TV movies are ... not great. Just watched River of Souls (1999). The production values were somewhat lower in the pilot (The Gathering, 1998), as you'd expected, but the writing, acting overall vibe was significantly better.Would I be missing much if I skipped A Call to Arms (1999) and went straight so season 6? Would I be better to quit white I'm ahead and pretend everything made after season 5 is fanfic?#TV #SciFi #Babylon5

@strypey Season 6 = Crusade? If so, then do not skip it as it sets the story for Crusade. Also, check the alternate Crusade episode order to get the most out of it.

@LoneSt4r> A Call to Arms as it sets the story for CrusadeThat answers my first question, thanks. But given the drop in quality from season 5 to the TV movies I've seen so far, is Crusade worth my time? I'm worried it will just leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.@drwho @jonathanharker

@strypey @drwho @jonathanharker Season 5 was already a drop in value as it the intrigue was lighter and didn't tie in with the previous seasons.I would say that Crusade is probably closer in value to Season 5 than to the TV movies. However, it was cut short mid-season, so the end (it does not have an end) will not feel satisfying. Still, it has its moments.

@LoneSt4r> Season 5 was already a drop in value as it the intrigue was lighter and didn't tie in with the previous seasonsIt felt rushed, for sure. Like they planned a 2 season arc, and then got worried they wouldn't get a 5th season. So they either had to risk an unfinished story, or cram all that story into one season, and they picked the latter@drwho @jonathanharker

It's amazing that none of the streaming studios have funded a Babylon 5 series. Imagine what JMS could have done with the budget NetFix plowed into that woeful Cowboy Bebop reboot.#TV #SciFi #Babylon5

@strypey Part of the issue is that Warner Bros owns #Babylon5 (except for feature film rights, which JMS owns), so no one else can produce a series without paying them.WB did ask JMS to pitch a reboot series a few years ago, and he wrote a pilot script and turned it in.And then the merger with Discovery happened, and nothing has happened since then. JMS says they haven’t passed on it, but they also haven’t greenlighted it. My guess is it stays in limbo until WB/Discovery unfucks itself, probably by selling the WB IP to someone else.

@strypey This was boosted by someone I follow, I hope you'll forgive an outsider coming in to volunteer info you may already know. :)There was a reboot planned at CW, JMS had scripted the pilot. Then there were mergers, and the writers' strike... it was last being "shopped around" in spring 2024.https://screenrant.com/babylon-5-reboot-update-future/JMS has a Patreon and one of its unexpected benefits was the script for Crusade's unproduced S1 finale, which kicked the meta-plot into gear.

@strypey Do you agree with Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who wrote: "As stories go, [JMS' ]" The Road Home" is pretty meh, standard sci-fi fare with a sappy, humanistic overlay."

@Hcobb> Do you agree with Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who wrote: "As stories go, [JMS' ]" The Road Home"Can't comment, haven't seen it. But the B5 TV movies I've seen so far don't hold up nearly as well as seasons 2-5 of the series.
