I really want a video filter that applies VideoCipher II scrambling to the video.although really want I want is a rackmount machine to do it in hardware. maybe without the PDP-10

@foone I mean, you can easily buy SBCs with FPGAs these days, right?

@foone I’ve often thought about writing something like this, modern open implementations of analog video DRM. But is there any very specific public documentation about how exactly they worked, enough to properly reimplement them?

@kaced the annoying thing? almost. There's not enough for someone like me to reimplement it, but maybe if you're very versed in analog NTSC signals you could figure it out from the available data

@kaced @foone There's been a few scrambling modes implemented in hacktv, but it's mostly focused on systems used on Europe (Videocrypt, Syster, etc). No VideoCiper II sadly.

@fsphil @kaced hmm, might be a good place to start though, maybe I can modify one of the existing scrambling modes to be Video Cipher 2

@foone @kaced It looks like they replaced the h-sync pulses with digital audio data, the closest we have to that is probably SiS (Sound-in-Sync). That's 625-line only atm but it wouldn't be hard to modify. The rest of the signal might be inverted too.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZWmMOLVaSA
