Hard to deal with all the people going on as if everything is normal. I feel like we ought to be living on half rations, saving every penny, studying networking by candlelight in a bunker at night.I also recognize that the fault line is significant and real but not as dramatic as my imagination thinks it should be. Because, both outcomes were always bad it is just that this one is so much worse. I have not perfected my plan of action yet. I won’t apologize to those who find me unreasonable.

@futurebird at the end of the day my best advice is to try not to react to fear of chaos, wait for the chaos, so you know what you are really dealing with. If it gets bad, and it could, then and only then do you weigh options and prepare.

@futurebird So many people are out there thinking "I wonder who will win the next sportsball game" and I'm over here like "that person talking about grits has a pretty good idea. I could probably buy a bunch of that real cheap and if I put it in ziplock bags it will probably last a really really long time. All it really needs is water, not even necessarily cooking, so this may be good if I won't have power in the future."

@futurebird Freaking out seems entirely appropriate and rational to me.

@futurebird For me I think a part of the plan needs to include community. When I get back to New York there's one specific organization I will get involved with that does sustainability education. We do need to take care of ourselves but we also need to connect with other people who can help us work towards a better future.

@futurebird A key challenge: it's difficult to model how bad this will be. Will they pull off the full Project 2025 or only part? If only part, which part?I can't rely on others to grasp the threat no matter degrees, though; they didn't get it before the election. For the most part the same people have already failed in a pandemic, now going about as if everything is normal once they achieved a level of normalcy they could accept.Meanwhile, I still mask in public and avoid big gatherings.

@futurebird Be unreasonable. Also, seek community, and make shared plans of action.

@futurebirdI am a hothouse flower. I live in a terrarium. I neither expect, nor wish to survive what I believe is coming. It's soul-crushing to forsee the likely future, and all the evil that's on its way, especially to the innocents who will suffer the most. So I'm not saving food, or making any real preparation for the future. Just enjoying the present as best I can. I know it will all blow over eventually, it always does, but that isn't much of a comfort.

@futurebird I've started q notebook of things to stockpile. :/ I do not regret that in march 2020 I bulk bought rice and a metal can to keep it in and cloth dishtowels (banking on our municipal water staying more available for washing than paper towel distribution chains) etc etc

@futurebird This certainly isn't an action plan or even an idea, but I want to tell a bit of a story. Your YouTube channel made a difference to a boy who I had in my 5th-grade science class a couple years ago. He is neurodivergent, has a hard time in conversations and friendships. He loves all insects, but especially ants. So he found someone who also loves ants: you. Thank you for that.
