       The topic of opt-in/out is often discussed in the context of telemetry on Linux, the part that is often ignored is why do you want to do it in the first place. The common answer is "it helps developers", ok, so what exactly are the developers going to do with it, explain yourself

       Before you even consider adding in telemetry you need to ask "What is it that we can't do without user data that we can do with it?" and "How exactly are we going to demonstrate these improvements?". If you can't answer these questions please throw your entire plan in the trash

       As an example in Manjaro's new telemetry tool it collects information like your motherboard vendor, your timezone, which ports your monitors are mapped to, your monitor vendor. What purpose does collecting this data actually serve, or is it just being collected for the sake of it?

       @BrodieOnLinux believe me I have asked the same questions a few times.The answer is often "well this randomly collected data helped the Ubuntu devs one time", so...They have no idea. They collect data in the hopes of finding some random correlation that might inspire them to do something... I guess?
