Since moving to #FreeBSD I've noticed quite a few blocks and unfollows. I get the unfollows but blocks from folk that don't follow me and I don't follow them is strange. Anyway each to their own as they say.So I'm looking to follow more #BSD family to get more BSD content on my feed so if that's you come say hi and tell me what and why you run said BSD.Please boost for more reach and thanks in advance.#RunBSD

Hi, Justine. #snac has a feature that is somewhat atypical: the inbox collection, which stores all public inboxes that crosses your instance and send all posts you generate to them, even if no specific accounts on that instance are in the 'to' list. Though it's on specification (what Mastodon calls 'federating' is very similar), some people or admins may find that posts from your instance arrives to them with no apparent reason, and may block due to ignorance and/or overzealous behaviour. You can disable this by setting the disable_inbox_colllection variable to true in you server.json config file. Also, some people looks at the 0 count of followers / followees and infer (incorrectly) that it's a new account and blindly block your account.CC: @normis@s.dodies.lv

Thank you for the information. I think i'll leave that setting as default for now as it makes sense to me. 😉CC: @normis@s.dodies.lv

Of course, I don't know if this is the reason for the blocks, just guessing. Also, if you don't want to know about any random moron blocking you, you can also disable the Block activity notifications by setting disable_block_notifications to true in the global server configuration.CC: @normis@s.dodies.lv

I don't mind seeing those notifications and it is after their prerogative to block me if they wish.CC: @normis@s.dodies.lv

@justine @grunfink @normis this doesn't surprise me. I have been blocked because I write posts about the BSDs and not about their favourite OS. Snac is great as you can know who's blocking you, and the inbox collection greatly helps small instance to federate better.Just for fun: the BSD Cafe instances have been defederated by some because we've been accused of sectarianism...

@justine i often block people who i dislike and would not want to ever see on my social streams. usually they _are_ people i don't follow, and could never follow because they are either vocal or latent fascism supporters.interestigly, people i do follow i tend to only unfollow (sometimes mute) instead of blocking, but that is much more rare.

@justine also, as a minor side note… i have this very beaten up t61 that for some reason i love the most; i think it's finally ripe for a freebsd install… and i'd like you to know that it's primarily your «fault» :-)
