@not_benis lately I just keep thinking how stagnant power metal is, because bands like Sabaton and Powerwolf that I listened to in the early 2010s used to have albums and songs that were more varied, and then they settled into a groove and keep making the same song over and overChris from Alestorm put it well that when he tried to break the rut and make things more interesting, people started crying and demanding more catchy slop about pirates so he gave up and settled on making that. it makes sense when power metal is big enough to make a living playing it, but I feel like the biggest names of the genre are just too scared of killing the golden goose

@not_benis not all bands of course (Stratovarius my beloved), and other subgenres can be guilty of this too, but not this much. much of black metal is very same-y but the biggest names like Darkthrone and Mayhem actually keep reinventing themselves quite oftenI especially keep pondering this after last month, when my friend saw Kamelot live (because of a different band, so he had no idea how they sound) and he said that they were pretty capable, but it felt like they played the same song over and over
