@rbreich at this point I think we need to abolish the whole system and replace it with nothing but marginalized people who know what the steaks are. We are our own best advocates and can’t rely on the people who don’t know what it’s like to go through discrimination and bullshit to do what’s in our best interest.

Okay kids, it's like this with the popular vote vs electoral college--it's when the race can be called. The race is invariably called first when the electoral college results are in first. The issue Reich is addressing is that the system disregards the votes of all but a handful of states because it's that handful of states that's got the most electoral college votes. Going with the popular vote makes more states matter. Full stop, regardless of which of each Trump in particular won.

While states in the electoral college system traditionally vote one way, it can be changed with effort.Popular vote means New York and California pick the president every time.Without the EC there is no US. "Fly over country" will not accept taxation without representation and will secede, violently if they must.@rbreich

@rbreich A bit late now. It will never happen. Ever. A Republican extreme Supreme Court filled with Aileen Cannon and the like; fake elections forever. There's no getting through this, short of civil war. I suppose a nice big pandemic on an unvaccinated population would help, too. But the US is an aggressive cancer on the world now, and semblance of carrying on normally will get you so far, but not nearly far enough.
