* This is what you get for abandoning Biden.* This is what you get for not standing up to Bibi* This is what you get because how generally bad Biden was.* This is what you get for being too left and not hating trans people* This is what you get for not having a more populist left economic agenda.Some of these takes are terrible. Some are tempting. But, I don't honestly know if this is down do any single obvious 'error.' It seems like something much deeper.

@futurebird From the exit polls I saw, it seems like those who voted Trump mostly voted for a "change" because they don't like their current situation. And Trump incarnated the change more than Kamala for them. Of course they're hoping (or even believing) that the change will be positive for them... @futurebird The republicans are better at messaging and were able to control the narrative,(even if it was all lies).And most Americans weren’t going to vote for the overqualified woman of color no matter what.People vote with their ass, not with their head.

I think the lack of a primary to replace Biden was what did it. Kamala was fine, more or less. What wasn’t fine was the last-minute nomination with no primary season to have other stories of the world than the ridiculous crap from all the RNC candidates.Talk about October 7. Talk openly about what Likud has done. Acknowledge that Hamas is terrible and unacceptable. That will bring people in, not shut them down.More of my take in my feed, I guess.@futurebird

@futurebird I “like” how many people are responding by just repeating one of these takes or confidently adding another take. I am glad you’re being curious, collecting, and observing. I don’t understand why all these people did something that would prevent me from wanting to be in community with them, and that signals that they would never want to be in community with me. It feels isolating and confusing and alone, and your curiosity gives me something to aspire to.

@futurebird I suspect she could have run with Bernie Sanders’ positions on everything and still lost because at the end of the day a lot of this country (about half of white women and lots of men of most demographics) would rather set themselves on fire than put a black woman in power

@futurebird I've been reflecting that the Democrats' highest point in 40+ years was the Obama era when the party pulled (not very much) to the left and activated big crowds of new voters. Party leadership's insistence that the economy is great is also 100% alienated from the real experience of anyone making less than 60k, especially in rural states; it's the "Mission Accomplished" banner of 2024.

@Voline @MisuseCase @inthehands Personally I think we need to look at "the media environment" most people inhabit and how... unenlightening it is. Trump got fewer votes this time than in 2016. People just ignored this election like it was the obnoxious noise that ... well that it often seemed to be.

@futurebird I think it’s pretty simple. Most people just voted based on their finances or hope that they’d be better under Trump. Which is understandable. What is not is they ignored or were ok with the misogyny, racism, and fascism.
