Put together the wire A-frame on the inside of the chicken coop. Crazy how much of a difference in rigidity some wire and turnbuckles make.Tomorrow I'll finish the wiring around the outside to tie down the plastic, then the last thing is to hammer some rebar in to hold the structure down. Though it's probably overkill considering I have cinderblocks sitting on top of the 2' hardware cloth "skirt" along the ground.Should be ready for rabbits next spring. Might even go full-boar and get pigs.

@eriner never underestimate the destructive power of pigs.if a wire mesh fence isn't buried at least a foot into the ground, it won't hold them.

@BobB When they're young and not trained to the electric fence, yes. But I'm reliably informed that once they're trained to the electric fence, they're pretty easy to contain.

@BobB Do you have pigs? Do you want to be my "pig guy" who I bother with questions? My goal with pigs is to use them to keep the brush down in the woods, as unlike goats, they'll eat things down to the roots. For that reason, I'd like a slower-growing breed, but things like Kunekune's are out the window because of their minimal rooting.Any suggestions?

@eriner I haven't been around pigs since I was 10. Cattle either... haven't been around chickens since 15.So I'm definitely not any sort of expert. From my memory, if they are hungry at all, and they see something they want outside the fence, then THEY are outside the fence. I think Joel Salatan's method of moving the pen is the way to go though. It might be a bit more work in some ways... but at least there's no sh!t to shovel. If/when it's time for me to homestead, tht's wht I'll do

@eriner @BobB I don't have personal experience, but my research led to American Guinea Hogs.

@bufordk oh, he's using a winch? Very cool, that's the first time I've seen a design with one in the wild. That was the method I had decided on when I did the chicken tractor stream, but I haven't built mine yet, so he's still one-up on me ;)
