Sometime, somewhere in the beginnings of the 2024 presidential campaign by the Democrats, they've decided what strategy to use in order to win. Instead of putting forward policies that poll best and with bipartisan support, they've decided on using the fact that the other option is way worse, as the primary reason to vote for them. Democrats also tried copying and compromising with many of Trump's policies and wording regarding border control and the economy, in order to win over some Republicans or “centrists”. They've removed medicare for all, opposition to torture, and support for trans healthcare from the democratic platform, and hence lost large chunks of their base in critical regions. In order for no one to make the Democrats themselves accountable for this loss, they've also decided on an old reliable scapegoat: third party voters. Instead of earning these people's votes by not doing the aforementioned reforms to their policies, the strategy was to guilt trip these people into voting for them with “lesser evil” arguments. That doesn't work. It didn't work with Reagan, it doesn't work today. The lesser evil would be for Democrats to no longer listen to their corporate sponsors, and do what they always knew polls best. They've decided to trade-off chances of winning this election, for appealing to big businesses and their lobbyism. That decision-making is what we should blame the lost election on. By blaming some minority group or some third party voters, you're playing into the game, make individuals responsible for structural issues, and hence ensuring that the Democrats won't change strategy for the next election.

@ErikUden I think the gamble on putting abortion rights as the headliner was two-sided blade. They were successful in many states were in seperate polls these rights were put into state law - at times against the result of the presedential vote. In the last two weeks on documentaries on arte/phoenix/zdf when they asked men from all demographics the reply was often "yes, women should have that right - but I'm a man so it doesn't apply to me".

@ErikUden If I could see it from here why didn't Democrat campaign managers changed the headliner?

@ErikUden I get that people feel that way, but when the chips were down. When we were faced with the reality of the choice. It was Harris (and whatever issues people have with her) OR TRUMP. Too many Americans didn't do the right thing. And now so many will suffer because of that.

@ErikUden This wasn't just created in early 2024.This was the titanium standard for Democratic Party establishment policy since Bill Clinton sprang from Al From's Democratic Leadership Council in 1988 to lay the foundation for tanking elections and purging liberals and Leftists so they could reboot to the Right and score that corporate/billionaire cash.

@ErikUden well put. They seem unwilling to let go of outdated neoliberal policies (not the least of which is austerity for the poor and socialism for the rich).

@ErikUden Honestly, this outcome doesn't even mesh with a "third-party voters are the problem" narrative (at least at this juncture in tabulating votes). There's (at present, AP reporting) a 5-million vote gap between Harris and Trump. Not even every person who voted third-party voting Harris instead (an honestly silly proposition that assumes she's #2 in everyone's ranked choice) closes that gap in popular support.People just didn't show up to vote for Democrats this time. If they voted for someone else besides Trump, that's irrelevant.

@ErikUden I completely agree. That's the reason they were losing me. What sealed the deal for me was Israel. While I never could vote for Trump, the Biden/Harris stance on Israel made it so I could also not vote for Harris either.

@ErikUden the voters chose a know conman, criminal, degenerate that ran the country into the ground. They were not interested in policies or performance. The 1st day after the inauguration they will claim the economy is awesome and everything is great. The sooner people stop promoting a path to convince that delusional mentality the sooner we will focus on fixing the turnout issue of the non crazy side of the electorate.

Even if you add all Jill Stein votes to the Democratic Party and Kamala in every swing state and everywhere else: it would not have made a difference [Source].I know it's easy wanting to find a scapegoat now. It's not the immigrants, it's not the “leftists”, it's not the working class. It's Trump, his racist policies, and the Democratic party trying to copy them in an attempt of winning over undecided voters, when in reality they simply validated Trump's positions.

@ErikUden Exactly what I saw, all the demonising of Jill Stein by Dems served no purpose whatsoever. On the other hand, there were still significant numbers voting for RFK as well, which would have had the same effect on the Reps' side.
