It’s tempting to step back and say “Ok, let’s see how you like it. This is what you wanted? OK now enjoy it.” And I feel that way in moments of spite. But, that’s not an impulse I’m proud of. It’s not productive, and it is … privileged? or worse? Dangerously naive. I *think* I can insulate my family & myself. Other people cannot. Others will *discover* to their shock they cannot. My imagined insulation? It might just be a mirage. There is a sentencing hearing soon.

@futurebird When Dump’s supporters complain about EVEN HIGHER prices after Dump’s really stupid tariffs kick off, and then refuse to admit it’s because of tariffs, I will be as vindictive as I can possibly be.

@futurebird what a WILD ride it would be to have him sent to prison instead of the oval office.

My insulation is nothing but a lot of education and skills, a robust social network, a little bit of money, and the wisdom of my parents and grandparents and great grandparents who have been dealing with this country for nearly 200 years and living more good days than bad in spite of it. I will share all I know and even some of the money and my time.

Please get a passport if you don’t have one (not to leave the country LOL. no. get your papers in order, so you are difficult to move) Save money if you can too. Owning land in this country is weirdly important even if it’s a little scrap of nothing. Cultivate your most rare and irreplaceable skill. Help those close to you to do these things they are NOT EASY and if you find it’s a struggle that’s real.

@futurebird A passport will probably become more important as proof of citizenship.

@futurebird I had passport and driving licence for most of my life. Now I'm 88 and can barely walk, I no longer need either.

@futurebird My impulse is that its all hopeless now. Evil controls the world, I can only do my best to protect my lived ones, and I’m going to be pretty broken at doing that.

@futurebird On a personal level, I want to (sincerely) congratulate you for being one of the few voting enthusiasts who was not mean about it, and one of the few that I didn't have to block or unfollow.

@futurebird And it’s always been the same outcome. It will all collapse into a new dark ages, and we live at the beginning of the collapse. That’s the worst part of the collapse.

@paulc Yup. I expect “mass deportation’ to work selectively. Well I hope that’s what we get because if they really do the “mass” part for real it will be so much violence.Less violence is better.

@futurebird I expect mass deportation to be unworkable for a variety of reasons. My expectation is concentration camps providing slave labor. So immigrants will continue doing the jobs they have already been doing but under even worse conditions. Oh, and once the camps are built expect citizens to also be put in these camps. There is a reason why private prison stocks are up today.

@Extra_Special_Carbon But people wrote stories and made art, they named SO MANY bugs and discovered so much about how nature works— they had families and remarkable lives in spite of all of that and you and I will do that too. Powerful men will thump their clubs. Maybe we aren’t the kind of animals that can transcend that. I still kind of think we are, though. Because like a bit of grit in an oyster I won’t go away or stop being irritating. No. I will become a pearl.

@futurebird I suspect another good reason to get a move on this is that Project 2025 involves partisan takeovers of all federal entities. Some of that will come with deliberate obstructionism, but there will also be a lot of pure incompetence as people are given jobs in essential areas for day-to-day government operations despite having no knowledge, experience, or other qualifications.

@futurebird I have a distinct urge to wish suffering on those who make this kind of bad choice because I’m angry, but it’s also the primary way STUPID learns to make better choices. The problem is we’ll all have to endure being dragged down by this. 😳

@futurebird I tilled a new garden last week. I'll be buying more fruit trees. My son has chickens, and I'll probably add to his coop.
