Anybody out there got material for a roughly 4-hour demo of #AlienRPG ? I played a scenario at Gen Con that was pretty fun but can't find it anywhere online, and most of the official material is meant for multiple sessions. #ttrpg

@starhawk You may be thinking of the intro scenario, Chariot of the Gods.https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/293977/alien-rpg-chariot-of-the-gods-scenarioIt's a pretty solid introduction.(cont)#TTRPG #AlienRPG

@starhawk If you want the Alien vibe, a more lightweight system that still has an excellent escalating pressure/stress mechanic, and which is more tuned to shorter arcs and one shot, Those Dark Places is a fantastic choice. The author is actually writing the big scenario setup for the upcoming edition of Alien, amusingly.https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/337292/those-dark-places-industrial-science-fiction-roleplaying#TTRPG #ThoseDarkPlaces

@lextenebris Chariot of the Gods is phenomenal...it'd be a re-run for one of the players but maybe that's my best bet. They were hoping to play Colonial Marines which would still involve me knocking together some new pre-gens and maybe adding some opposition at the adventure site. But I suppose that's better than trying to create something from whole cloth in the relatively short amount of time I have!

@starhawk You could always start with Building Better Worlds, which has a whole bunch of useful bits for establishing your own setup. And then just make a very simple initiatory kicker that would call for the deployment of the Colonial Marines. You don't want anything overly complicated, because in a four-hour slot with a reasonable amount of combat, you're just not going to be able to get through it, and give it any justice. If you think about it in terms of breaking it down into five acts, with the first one essentially being picking the pre-gen characters and setting up the situational expectation, the second putting the characters into the space and beginning to ramp up their comfort within that space, the third act being where they realize things are very much not as they believed that they were, the fourth act reinforcing that knowledge and quickly eroding that sense of power that they had in the second, and then the fifth act being where everything goes to hell entirely and some of their number make it out with their lives and maybe with some sort of objective. The pacing pretty much works itself out. Once you decide on the structure, then you just need to figure out what are the objectives available in the space, and what are the threats, then turn them loose. That can be very quick.#TTRPG #writing
