If I could travel back in time I think I would go back to 1977 and visit a Radio Shack.https://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/flipbook/1977_radioshack_catalog.html

@admin I was fortunate enough to be a swl and a ham while the shack still had a decent parts selection.. I really do miss being able to run to the local store for a PL239 or a few resistors

@PopeASDF @admin We have a new business model, we could call it “The Shit Shack” using that old Tandy font and we sell electronic parts and stuff for radio.

@admin @HopelessDemigod I’m not going to lie, if it wasn’t based in Mississippi it’s almost the perfect buy it out, optimize and run it company

@PopeASDF @admin I miss being able to pick up those parts and others in a local shop... Later in life we also had Fry's Electronics in the Bay Area, but they went under too, unable to compete or adjust or generate any customer loyalty by famously being huge buttheads.

@croyle @admin and the bastards took away microcenter too!! (Although that was a rent play at the shopping center, it’s still open in other places around the country)

@PopeASDF @admin I used to work just a quick walk from Fry's Sunnyvale, so I'd shop there for me and for work and for the work lab, when we needed some sort of weird cable lengths or rack screws or whatever, like, right now... I always did well with electronics/computer stores. :)

@PopeASDF @admin YES! St. John's had a great bleu bacon burger, excellent onion rings and often Pliny on tap... Right there with the old HRO, which I mess too. There used to be a Mac store in there too, and a laser printer place I had refurb my old HP laser printer back in the day... Kinda funny that only St. John's remains, but I'm glad they do.

@PopeASDF @admin I bet, they were always pretty consistent. We used to try to get there early for lunch because of al the tech locals that showed up for lunch so there was almost always a line... I wish they were still local to me, along with some other places like our favorite sushi place in San Jose, Falafel's Drive In, etc...
