@stux I've always wanted to institute requirements for anyone buying a pickup truck. You should have to prove you transport X amount of whatever in a year to be able to buy one. Can't tell you how many of these road hogs are spotless and not a spec of anything has ever been hauled in the bed.

@stux it’s funny how it all looks relative though. I went to Germany on a business trip, back when I lived in San Francisco, and my coworker picked me up in his VW. I commented how big it seemed and asked him about which model he was driving, it was a Golf. 😆 This was particularly funny because I drive a GTI (same body, different engine) but at home my car seems tiny.

@stux our regulation inadvertently mandated gigantic cars and our dysfunctional politics disallows a fix. It is awful. So much waste. Breaks me a bit to think I could get 2 different version of the Twingo EV in the EU (Renault and Nissan) but my closest option here is the obsolete Leaf, which is huge by comparison.

@stux I'm seeing more and more of these huge ass pickup trucks in Europe. And it's mostly not by people who actually need to haul shit. Hatchbacks and estates can haul so much stuff and they are just slightly larger than Peugeot on your photo.

@stux They aren't hauling shit!Most of them are brand new and shiny, without a bit of dirt on them. I laugh when I'm behind an F150 truck and the driver slows way down to gingerly navigate a speed bump. The trucks that are used for hauling are dragging around a 30-foot (9-meter) trailer with a full kitchen and washer dryer for, you know, "camping" at the state park. It's disgusting.

@stux I don't understand all the idiots driving alone in a F150 that clearly has never been used for any sort of actual truck purposes. I hate that the US is getting rid of small cars. When my Hyundai Accent finally craps out, they don't make it anymore. I also have a Ford Explorer, but we usually carpool in that, so at least it's getting some suitable use.

@stux they're all driving those long-cab F150s with like a 4ft bed. Many of them have a hard bed cover. So you basically are hauling around an empty truck bed that it's hard to put anything into and is in every way worse for most tasks than a Peugeot 208.
