My best aliexpress find recently was this DIY leather kit where you make a little case for your earbuds. They have a few other options for little crafts to make. It's very simple, and relaxing and can be done in 1 or 2 hours tops. (so it's not like starting a new hobby)To my amazement it came with everything you need to make the case: needles, threads, etc. Low stakes crafting for the tired and busy person!https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802500613328.html

Aliexpress is so random. Sometimes you get something that's nothing like what you ordered... other times it's just more fun and more cool than it has any right to be.

@futurebird To be sincere, my experience with it is that you get what you pay for: I have got a zisha yixing teapot that is really good, but it cost me good money. I have goot wooden small easels for some board games, and a paint mixer, and KungFu shoes and so on, and everything was what I expected for the price I paid. I guess the meme comes from when people pay pennies and expect luxury, but what do I know. :akkoshrug:

@Nazani @futurebird When I lived in China the Chinese version was Taobao and you got things same day. China is next level though, I went to a market in Shanghai that was 4 floors of just buttons and fastners

@futurebird Tandy Leather in the US makes a lot of kits like this. But that is terribly cute!

@Doug_Bostrom What might be less ... junky... could be a curated blog of especially good finds. Though you need a person pure as the driven snow to run it. So I guess word of mouth (or text of eye) is the way to go.

@venya I've been very stressed out and this was just the perfect soothing activity after a long day. And the final product looks great and can be used right away. I got a couple to give as gifts to people I know who have earbuds and like random little projects.

@futurebird I have been in leather work on and off since 2013. Lately, I haven't done much but some minimal wallets, most recently for my son. The stitching can be tedious but also kind of relaxing.https://musicians.today/@venya/113296178211596667

@venya That looks like so much fun. Maybe if I'm still curious in a few years I might get more into this hobby. I can think of a lot of custom cases that I could make. However. Until I give away or sell the tools from one of my existing hobbies I may not start a new one LOL.

@futurebird I will have to dig up my old photos. I specialized in tooled leather covers for the ugly green hardcover notebooks the Army supplied us. It was fun and highly in demand, but I only did them for friends and nominal cost.I learned not to make phone cases; they would last decades longer than the phone they were sized for.

@futurebirdI get the wire for my Vape on Aliexpress. It's named AiTUTE Pirate Coil Alien. Well, technically it's not an Alien Clapton but a Fused Clapton, but it's cheap, it's easy to use, it tastes good and I like it.

@futurebird I've never tried Aliexpress, though it's tempting. Could probably get lots of 1/6th scale props and bits for my "Minions at Work" photo cartoons. From what I can see, Temu is out there giving the whole notion a bad name. Maybe time to go poke around again and roll the dice.

@futurebird Trying to buy stuff, but I'm having a devil of a time even getting set up and logged in. Didn't like the strong password Google generated (got to a slider which, when slid, generates an error in Chinese). Tried just logging in with Google account, and that SEEMED to work, but now clicking the "G" for login just gives me a super-long link to a blank or unresponsive page. Too bad. There's some action figure clothing and accessories I'd really like to try getting...

@jstevenyork There is something about the automatic translation that makes it do that kind of thing. Mostly if I just go to the main home page I find I'm logged in.I've used them for almost 4 years with no real issue.
