ok, I'm just gonna say it. Debian needs to find a maintainer for firefox who is not employed by Mozilla. Debian should be stripping out all this adtech that Mozilla keeps putting in.We've been filing bugs for years, and they are continually ignored. It's probably not happening because that's a lot of work, but having a Mozilla employee involved leaves Debian vulnerable to a perception of conflict of interest.

(Or just package any firefox fork already, so those of use who care can switch to it.)

@joeyh@hachyderm.io Fwiw, #LibreWolf uses their own apt repository. Still more effort than being in upstream, but a very acceptable alternative imo.

@joeyh Abrowser from Trisquel is an excellent firefox derivative, and should be an example to other derivatives or even grow beyond Trisquel.

@iank @joeyh Too bad abrowser silently runs whatever proprietary software websites throw at it without adequately informing the user of such execution.

@Suiseiseki @joeyh Ya, it isn't perfect I should have mentioned, you should still should add something that blocks JS by default like noscript or LibreJS, and an adblocker.

@iank The only thing that reliably blocks JavaScript is javascript.enabled = false in about:config unfortunately.

@iank @joeyh @Suiseiseki Literally just install lynx and send racial slurs to the nearest email address (usually privacy@) of any website that can't manage to render anything in it due to their own incompetence.

@Suiseiseki Is there something I'm missing other than LibreJS allows free js, and noscript has a default allowlist?

@iank NoScript and LibreJS are extensions, so they have only a limited ability to block JavaScript and crafted attacks have been found in the past that cause a bypass of the blocks and execution of JavaScript (there is many places to hide JavaScript in and the only reliable way to have it not be executed is to configure the JavaScript engine to not execute anything but extensions).

@joeyh Full ACK. It's enough for me that a fresh Firefox constantly tries to autocomplete what I type to 'facebook.com', 'whatsapp.whatever' and similar, although I've never visited those sites and never want to.Firefox was just the 'a little bit less annoying browser' since around a decade. Enshittification. I really hope there will be a usable fork or a patched version in Debian.I really don't know yet how I'd deal with it if not.
