Terrible idea: a scifi story set in a early-20th century idea of the solar system. Mars is a dying desert covered in canals to bring water from the poles to the sand cities at the equator.Venus is a humid jungle/swamp full of strange beasts. Both are fully habitable by humans with no more gear than you'd need to cross the Sahara or venture into the rainforest. The trick? This is actually a distant future realistic setting. We terraformed the planets specifically to be like that.

@foone and the societies there have devolved into a sort of postapocalyptic feudalism, and for some reason, adopted leather bikinis as their standard attire.

@foone but is it high tech / futuristic or does it seemingly takes place in a strange alternate 20th century until you find out it's like 30th century?

@foone The Thrilling Adventure Hour's _Sparks Nevada: Marshall in Mars_ did exactly this. At least for Mars, they didn't talk much about Venus. It's kind of hidden for most of the run but towards the end they do an episode and - yep. That's what happened.
