Off-road Chinese golf carts are going to overtake the SxS market for small utility vehicles in America within the next decade.I'm not talking about Yamaha, Club Car, and EZ GO.The Chinese carts imported by Coleman Powersports (sold at Walmart, Tractor Supply, etc) are going to crush the competition unless the Trump Tariffs and EZ GO cry-baby lawsuits price them out.I don't understand why anyone would buy a Kawasaki Mule over this.

@eriner I don't follow this but I will say I know many people who buy the really expensive ones as a status symbol in their shitty gated communities. It's a whole thing, and all the slaves in each respective community buy the same carts.

@Iamthebammbamm my local TS has them for 8k.Ultimately, they're Kandi imports, but Coleman must either do the modifications themselves or have some deal with them, because they (the Coleman-branded Kandis) have disc brakes on the front and back, and decent suspension that I don't think the Kandis have.

@commandlinekid I'm sure that's true down in Florida and places that are hospitable to near year-round transport with golf carts.I'm viewing this as utility vehicle in comparison with a SxS though, not as a traditional golf cart.

@Iamthebammbamm For off-road use like you'd use a side-by-side? Not going to happen. Best you could do is a Suzuki Carry or something, but any vehicle you get like that's going to have a lot of miles and be pretty beat up. I thought about going that route for a long time, but if you want a decent one at a decent price, you have to deal with the import yourself and it's a giant pain in the ass.

@erinerI used to think they were underused, but frankly, having the county or utility locals tooling around on the main drag is creeping me out now. Absent any actual information, it feels more like "austerity" than simplicity. It feels like a top-down push, because the stupid things cost more than a Japanese minitruck, FFS, but it obviously serves some bureaucratic purpose. It feels like like I'm in The Village or something.

@Iamthebammbamm if I needed something bigger, I'd probably buy a Jeep. But the form-factor and general utility of a vehicle like this is exceptional for the price, IMO. It's basically an all-electric version of a Mule SxS but with 400lb of extra towing capacity and you don't have to store gas, change oil, it's quieter, and on top of all that, it's cheaper. The only potential downside is parts availability, but Coleman seems to be reasonably stocked: https://parts.colemanpowersportsusa.com/parts/golf-cart-parts/coleman-gcev4g-t

@bullmousse they only cost more than the bottom-of-the-barrel Suzuki Carrys with rusted-out frames and 250k miles. Find a decent one under 8k (or do the math on importing a less-abused one yourself, which is basically the only way to go AFAIK) and get back to me. Don't forget the harbor's cleaning fees!

@Richard yeah, I wouldn't buy an old Club Car for 3.5k. You'd have to spend 1.5-2k in new batteries right out of the gate, so now you're 5k into a '84 cart without suspension, disc brakes, probably needs a lift kit, and probably doesn't have folding rear seats.$8k into a Chinese cart like this brings way more value than a 5k 40 year old Club Car.

@eriner The ones on minitrucks.net don't seem especially rusted, but they don't feature undercarriage shots, so I don't know. The ones near me that I was considering are just over eight grand, already in the US, and would probably function after Kamala's EMP. But for that price, I could get 2/3 of a warrantied sedan with AC at CarMax, so I'm not sure that'll be my choice when my current vehicle dies of mileage.

@Richard it's funny, if you look at Dealers (for Yamaha, Club Car, EZ Go) on YT, they all shit on the Chinese cars because they're putting them out of work.Smart money buys the Chinese cart and does the work the dealer usually does (toe alignment, tighten the bolts, grease everything, etc) and saves 2-4k.

@Richard yeah, that's crazy to me. I've wanted a utility vehicle for a long time, but I've never been able to justify the cost: they're all ridiculous, even the most basic of them (like the basic Mule). Even more if you want 4x4.For $8k, I'd take the Coleman cart over this any day of the week. **As long as you're capable of doing the maintenance work yourself and you don't need a "dealer" to swap parts**

@eriner 6.5 hr charge time, there are no plugins in the bush. Jerrycan can fill mine way faster, I have probably pulled over 1300 with mine a time or two.I see them as akin to an electric pickup, nice toy, but limited use for actual off road work.

@sir_rob > goalpost shiftI don't think this appeals to people buying a large ($16k) UTV like the TeryX4, it appeals to people who would otherwise buy a Mule ($10k).Stock AGM 8vs (155Ah), it'll go 40 some miles which is probably enough for most use-cases unless your farm/hunting lease is measured in the thousands of acres.Cram it with LiFePO4s in 3-5 years when the AGM batteries die (~$1.5k) and you might get 200Ah into the equivalent space AND reduce weight by a hundred pounds.

@Richard @eriner but what about repairs? One of my buddies bought an expensive electric scooter (like $4k) that I Chinese made. It's a nice scooter, pretty heavy and goes around 40mph.But when the time came to do some basic maintenance on it, he had a terrible time buying parts! Is this the case with these Chinese golf carts?

@Peaceandprosperity @Richard Parts availability is usually the big caveat. For now it seems reasonable to get parts from Coleman Powersports (which was Champion Motorsports Group before the acquisition): https://parts.colemanpowersportsusa.com/parts/golf-cart-parts/coleman-gcev4g-tOr from Kandi (PartsBoss) for the 4P, which is the base vehicle: https://www.partsboss.com/KANDI-Parts/Kruiser-4PI'd be less worried about getting parts for something like this (because of the American brand behind it) than for Tunizo's Amazing Electric Scooter on Amazon.Point still valid.

@KK954 true for lead acids, but LiFePO4s should go 10yrs+ before needing to be replaced. Not cheap out of the gate, granted, and if you get a cart like this with AGMs it needs to be an expected expense between years 3-5, but they have a much longer expected lifespan than the lead acids and AGMs of yesteryear.
