Billionaires and trillion-dollar monopolies is not a failure of capitalism; it’s capitalism working exactly as designed. The biggest lie you’ve been told is that capitalism is essential to democracy. The truth is capitalism tolerates democracy when it’s weak and replaces it when it’s strong.

@aral not sure the monopolies or billionaires are inherent to capitalism. The Chicago school of Economics is the reason we are where we are at now, along with Neoliberalism and the Citizens United Ruling. Capitalism would be different if those things don’t happen. Was this an inevitable end to capitalism? Don’t know. Would we better in a Social Democracy with Capitalism? Yes. It’s not like Socialism or Communism have been successful to the masses.

@aral - capitalism is the antithesis of democracy. What good does it to do to have political democracy when you must kowtow to an completely authoritarian institution in order to have food, housing, etc.? A simple, trivial, example: You can vote to legalize marijuana but you can't enjoy it in the comfort and safety of your own home when you have to pass a piss test on Monday.
