Did the ancient Egyptians see any humor in this? This is Nehebkau, the primordial snake god... often drawn as a snake with people feet. More than anything else it's things like this that let me know that I just don't understand their mythology or culture much at all.

@futurebird I saw those recently in a museum even with Arms. but it looks a bit less out of place in a mural with a lot of the same shaped arms and legs figures.

@futurebird the odd coincidence is there's tons of Cretaceous snakes that actually had well-formed hind legs. (But there's no evidence the ancient Egyptians knew about these other Cretaceous snakes. ) There are also some living lizards that are very serpentine but have hind limbs of one sort or another. No idea whether any of those live close to Egypt.

@bitzero @futurebird someone running from a snake only to turn around and see the snake galloping after them sounds like a gag you’d find in the dregs of Tumblr, which actually kind of makes me feel like we all have had more in common over the centuries than we realize. It’s just as easy to imagine people laughing and sharing that image around a campfire as it is on a net forum.
