What if the "enemy from within" is within oneself?

@mensrea Sorry... it's just all getting a little transparent for me.

@futurebird In most cases (if not all) the enemy from within is fear.

@rayhindle I'm scared to ride a bike. I was in an accident a few years ago, it's not an irrational fear, but its proportions are irrational and not in keeping with my normal method of risk assessment. I still ride the bus, cross the street, use power tools, eat food although I have allergies. I do equally dangerous things and know this. But I do not ride my bike. Fear is very powerful and it cannot always be realigned through logic and reasoning. That itself is terrifying, isn't it?

@paulc This is one of those things where exactly the people who need to do it LEAST will earnestly engage in the self criticism and reflection exercise. And those who need to do it the most will roll their eyes or blink uncomprehendingly. How do we flip THAT one around, huh?

@futurebird I have an irrational fear of enclosed spaces (claustrophobia). You can imagine what it was like to undergo an MRI scan a couple of weeks ago. Yet, I can manage a small cabin on an aircraft.

@futurebird Learn about yourself. Anyone should do this. This is the best way to know your enemy.

@futurebird Isn't that the surprising twist at the end of half the films made since Fight Club?
