There are a lot of young recordists out there who never worked on tape and who grew up in the DAW age.PLEASE STOP EDITING YOUR DRUMS AND TUNING YOUR VOCALS.You're doing more harm than good.I have a good friend who not long ago recorded basics for one song, and a day or two later he told me "I spent 8 hours editing the drums."WHY?When we recorded on tape, that kind of editing was not possible, we did NOTHING, and you know what? No one died and people bought the records.1/2#Music

@owl Exactly. When I record on my DAW I treat it like a tape machine. I don't usually record to a click (unless the band requests it), and again, the universe didn't come to an end and the final product was great.

@Ricardus I’ve been following the analyses of Fil/Wings of Pegasus on YouTube. Truly shocking to learn how this digital ‘perfection’ ability has taken over music.

@marquisedewhat Yeah. It sucks. I literally have the following conversation with every young recording engineer. For example one guy told me he has world class singers but he uses tuning just to get them perfect. So I typically simply ask "why?"I've engineered on hundreds of records and we started out on analog tape. I've never once gotten a vocal take that I liked and said to myself jeez I wish I could tune it and make it that 1 millionth of a percent better. When it's good it's good.

@Ricardus Singing is nothing without the little breaths, slides, breaks, and everything that makes a singer unique. Not to mention in live performance. It’s still shocking to me that live releases are frequently heavily tweaked. Anyhow, glad to encounter someone in the biz posting about it.
