@aral I typically use an element blocker to remove those modal demand elements from the site's pages and then continue using the sites without responding in either the affirmative or the negative.

@aral seen it in the EU from EU news sites too, but it's more subtle: the GDPR pop up allows you to reject cookies, but if you do you get a different pop up requiring you to subscribe, but giving you the option to not subscribe by accepting cookies. So, not sure avoiding the Brexit would have helped in this case

@aral It's been happening a lot lately. It's absolutely despicable, and sadly it's not a brexit thing. The GDPR seems to have just enough ambiguity to potentially allow this, under certain interpretations. Courts in at least France and Germany (and possibly others) have affirmed this practice, which is why I think this is popping up more and more.

@aral They overinflate their value to people for what they offer. People can reject the ads and them for free.

@aral advertising has ceased to advertise anything. The only real product for sale is (the illusion of) respite from punishment by your corporate overlords. Want us to stop hitting you? Pay us. If you ever stop paying, we start hitting you again.

@aral @rysiek FWIW I've been seeing a similar pattern in France, even on major sites: allow tracking via cookies or subscribe (€) to the site.
