@btanderson I assume this is what it's like for the Brits when I talk about baseball. That was surreal. I have learned nothing.

@futurebird @btanderson Explaining conker would be like explaining slood.

@futurebird @btanderson They're a buckeye-like nut that kids (usually) put on a string and slam into each other's, winner being the one who breaks the other's nut. Or, being kids, into each other's knuckles. Every kid knows 12 different ways of rigging a conker before they enter secondary school, yet cheating in an *official* competition is just Not The Done Thing. It's a mystery that ESPN haven't picked it up yet.

@btanderson @futurebird This is the most British thing I have ever read, and I don’t know what I just read.

@parsingphase @futurebird @btanderson (Still confused. Look up "buckeye". Find "soapberry". Remain confused. Discover that they're basically chestnuts. No longer confused by what kind of nut, but still extremely confused about *how you attach the string without the nut just sliding out when you swing it*.)

@robotistry @futurebird @btanderson Stick a hole through the middle of it and tie a knot underneath

@parsingphase @futurebird @btanderson Getting this straight. You take a perfectly good, edible nut. You drill a hole through it(with what? does orientation matter? how big a hole? does string type affect the hole? are there professional conker strings? what about string length? is there a relationship between string length / hand-eye coordination / success?)then smash it until you break someone else's nut.And get ... bragging rights?

@robotistry @parsingphase @btanderson To be fair it makes as much sense as every other sport.
