Oh wow! I just learned that in the nightly build of #Chrome they now want to block #AdBlockers š® I'm a FireFox user so I downloaded Chrome Canary to test and indeed#Google is becoming more and more hostile to their usersIt's a nightly build but still nasty they even think about thisRead more leads to: https://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/answer/2664769#unsupported_extensions

@stux I was a BIG Chrome user for so many years. But Google's weird way of doing this business made me to back to Firefox.

@stux UBlock Origin Lite will still work on chromium based browsers and there is a setting you can adjust that buys you extra time with Manifest V2 on Chrome until mid 2025. Details in the Security Now podcast and transcript. https://www.grc.com/securitynow.htm

@stux nice bait post, fortunately you should already been know that if you remove "anti-adblock" agenda, it's actually because of the new manifest v3 requirements which caused hardened limits, hence the extensions store require you to comply with new policy. Yes, this does affect adblocking and the intent is obvious, but it's actually affect everything that use mv2, which is a more than just adblocking solutions.

@stux I think they trying to bring extensions to android now, which sounds more profitable after they messed with adblocking making them less effective.

@stux the lite version is apparently v3 compatible. The workaround they describe apparently until June 2025. I've moved to DNS blocking with NextDNS, so that is upstream from the browser and my ublock is just for catching what the DNS level blocking misses

@stux the thing is I'm trying to say is that Mozilla too uses manifest, all browsers utilize it. It's just some browsers can have a choice to preserve old function compatibility like Vivaldi, Mozilla and Brave (?) stated to do. This does add maintenance cost though, not sure how long everyone will keep it.

@stux @collectifission A few days back Iāve had issues with YouTube on Apple TV. I forgot Iāve moved it to a different VLAN, which was adblocked by UniFi and it was struggling to play any video. As far as I know it was only blocking 2 hostnames, both ad-relatedā¦š¤”

@stux "Best practices guidelines" sound as stupid as "Trusted Platform Manufacurer". Best for who? Well, for Google, of course! Trusted by who? The user? Oh no, Microsoft of course.Corporations really have the way to bastardise words.

@stux They should finally make sure that #adsense is not used to distribute malware on a large scale. As long as they don't do anything about it, I will use AdBlocker. #google
