While all internal censorship by Russia and China is deemed as proof of an authoritarian state, international censorship conducted by the capitalist system, with completely undemocratic institutions guiding what can and cannot be said on the digital public square, is seen as proof of freedom.

@ErikUden What aren't you allowed to say? Yes, its a bad thing if justice gets replaced by "private law" created by media companies and too-willed internet providers. Same in academia with their closed journal economy.But thats no freedom of speech problem. You can still spoil Disney movies in public.

@hannah it's an arbitrary distinction I made up and it's not really important for my point. But what I'm trying to convey is that Russia, for example, banned Discord and other communication platforms within their borders and it made the rounds through the news (for good reasons) but when Anthony Blinken comes out of nowhere, claims (with zero evidence given) that “Red.” is a Russian state affiliated disinformation media, it's immediately banned. Not just in the U.S., but off of every global social media platform. He doesn't have the authority to do that? But corporations cited his statement as proof of this being the case. I mean, that level of censorship is somehow seen as better than “just” the one that bans it inside of a country.I mean, shit, when I report literal Nazi propaganda on Twitter, and even Twitter agrees with me that this is Nazism, they only make it invisible for people in Germany (which is insane). How come this media organization (of many) is treated so harshly? Worse than Nazism?

@ErikUden The proclivity of people in the west for accepting dictatorship of those answerable only to the shareholders over those (at least theoretically) answerable to the public always astonishes me.

@ErikUden My father was born in Germany and emigrated to Canada. My mother was born in China and emigrated to Canada. I was born in Germany, but as a Canadian citizen. Hence half of each. :wink:(The bad math skills are still there.)
