Many people think ants have a ribcage in their gaster but, in fact, an ant skeleton looks like this:(As drawn by Kiuuki on https://www.deviantart.com/kiuuki/art/ant-skeleton-518844863 ) Keep this in mind for Halloween!

Ants are arthropods and you can see their skeleton it's on the outside. They don't have tiny bones as much fun as that would be. I still like this drawing.

@futurebird huh, posterior dorsal vertebrae look very mammalian, as do the limbs ... makes me wonder if ants are related to centaurs.

@EverydayMoggie The artist is being VERY silly. And they have done a good job taking mammal bones and trying to fit them in an ant shape.

@futurebird @EverydayMoggie FAR creepier to me is imagining how ants might envision human exoskeletons. Do they assume only certain parts of us bend? This is offtopic and I cannot vouch for anything except the loveliness of the trailer, but had you seen this?? FIrst I heard of it was yesterday but thought of you:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY5r0nEd2ag

@mogul These don't bother me as much as the "cat skeletons" that have bone ears... or the human skeleton I saw once with... with ... *bone boobs* (because clearly someone was disturbed that you can't really tell gender all that easily from a human skeleton... just sort of guess and maybe be right.)

@futurebird @mogul When I was in high school, I knew some dudes who thought human males had penis bones. I thought they were dumb for believing this, but later in life, I learned that many mammals actually do have a penis bone (baculum), and my mind was blown.

@futurebird ok guys with your fantasies of wolf sized ant packs, (very cool), we are going to need some basic ant biology1) ants hunt for and feed meat only to their larvae. the adults aren't growing and don't need much protein and eat mostly carbs like nectar2) there ARE small sized cooperative hunting ant colonies i don't remember the names, check out E. O. Wilson's Insect societies (good review of the various ways insects live together) and wilson and holdobler superorganism
