       I remember in school when we started reading the diary of anne frank, our teacher discussed its historical context including how she was murdered in bergen-belsen, and a student just said “dude, spoilers...” 😭😭😭

       @ErikUden I was like 12 when we read the diary of Anne Frank in school.  I knew what the Holocaust was already.  But what happened to Anne Frank specifically was not a common thing to discuss.  Like, part of the point of reading it is that *most of us* didn't know who Anne Frank was before that point.

       @ErikUden not that your classmate was anything like this but your posts reminded me ofUneducated by Tara Westover. It is a great read.she was raised by Mormon survivalist types and never learned about anything, including that the holocaust had happened. she showed up at university like that, just totally lacking in all common historical knowledge
