I didn't know this existed, but it's a gadget that helps you get up off the floor. Would have loved to have rented one of these a few years ago when my leg was still healing. Anyway I wanted to share it so more people know this exists. It's a few 100 bucks and there are a few models. Not linking any particular one since I have not tried them, but I love the idea.

@rgegriff @Callalily The floor can be a trap. When my leg was healing I had to wait for my husband to come home once because I tried doing a bunch of floor exercises (they were great) but discovered that trying to stand without bending one leg or putting weight on the other was a terrible puzzle. It was funny but it put me off exercising a little.

I just really like gadgets that let people just do things themselves. I should make a folder with a collection of such devices.

@futurebird as a student I worked in a nursing home and we had a folder with leaflets for such devices. There were so many clever inventions.

@futurebird This is good to know.I can't afford to fall (I don't mean financially), so I'm terribly cautious (I walk really slow and use two canes to keep my balance). I live mentally preparing for a fall, and more or less decided I would have to use my dog's ramp, which goes up to the couch. That is, if I don't break anything when I fall. 😅

@futurebird my wife suffered a fracture of both ankles a while back and we got one of these - but waterproof and designed to help people get in and out of the bath and it was a lifesaver.

Comforts me to know that there is something out there that will let me continue petting myself kitties on the floor even after I am no longer able to lift myself off the floor. My Murphy would be very upset at the world if he didn't get his daily evening drumming on the living room floor

@futurebird would have been nice 2 years ago when I had pneumonia while living with the other side of the country my most precious Dazzle. She only liked me to pet her on the 3rd floor. My bedroom was on the 1st. I don't think anyone else who lived there truly understood that no matter how terrible I feel, I will find a way to pet my kitties.
