@Terry i'm not saying there wont be destruction, but it really is a theater show for people who aren't in the path of the stormno one that lives in the east needs to be told about storms, just like no one in the midwest needs to be told about tornadosagain, simply m5m fear porn driveli'm sure i'll be looking out the window every 5 seconds to see if the tree in my backyard is coming down on my house if it swings up this way but its not something new or that's actual news, but anything to distract from the rest of the shit show that is reality

@dictatordave if you live anywhere near Tampa I would get the fuck out of there ASAP. We're talking about 200 MPH winds.

@Terry Not as complete destruction that a dead man walking tornado would bring in a concentrated area

@William_The_Dragonborn @Terry I've stopped in the area where that storm hit. It's kind of spooky knowing that almost everyone in that suburb died. It's a place that definitely feels like it should be haunted. Like, there are houses with driveways that go nowhere, or park benches where you know a family of 5 were killed. It like the setting of those liminal space horror stories. This place is totally normal, but it's also totally not.

@Elliptica @Terry Its one thing to see ruined buildings and tossed cars but to see nothing but the foundation of the home and granulated debris and no sign of life it is unnerving even for those with the steeliest of nerves.

@William_The_Dragonborn @Terry @irie_new "This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth's atmosphere over this ocean water can produce""I would argue more of God’s wraith."What did Florida do??But higher order concepts aside, what's happening is exactly what's in the first quoted sentence's words. Hurricanes are heat engines, and their limits include how hot the water is under them and how cold the air is on top of them. The former ... well, it's not getting anywhere near boiling point.... And that's why they weaken so much when over land, it can't yield as much heat since you don't have convection currents in the ground like you do in a fluid such as water. There's also more details in the full Xweet which sounds like stuff a person knowledgeable about hurricanes would understand. Air pressure for example is always something you'll hear about storms including hurricanes. But he specifically calls out the small size of the eye and the speed of the winds. I know that "organization" has a great deal to do with the energy of a hurricane, and it's pretty intuitive that the less ordered they are, the less well they'll function as a heat engine.
