I feared the worst when I stumbled over Senpai wa Otokonoko. Seven episodes later and the anime proved me wrong.Instead of catering to the LGBT anime crowd in the West by reducing individual issues and choices to abstract political solutions, it shows the Japanese way how to handle these things. When the main character, for example, says he doesn't want to bother anyone with his crossdressing, it can be seen as the antithesis to LGBT, which seeks to invade and rot society from within. The story continuously defies LGBT conventions and justifications and focuses instead on deeper feelings part of the human experience and condition. Instead of reducing and simplifying, or blaming others, it spreads out a colorful and introspective spectrum consisting of identity, friendship, love, and coming of age that anyone could relate to, regardless of the motif treated.Senpai wa Otokonoko.png
