Is it possible for a cat to "sass" you or "give you lip" or "talkback" ?

@futurebird Let's say I've been sitting on an article title for years that reads: "Without cats, we'd be gods"

@futurebird I don't understand the question. What else do cats do?

I took this to mean "No, I will tell YOU 'no' your little words have no meaning to me."

@DavidM_yeg She seems to go to some effort when "talking" never just the same sound over and over. All sorts of complex utterances. I never know what she means exactly, but she keeps "explaining"My running theory is that that's what she makes of our talking... especially if my husband and I start talking to each other she *always* runs from the other room to join in. So we have to give her her say. "Well what do you think, Pica?"*extensive complex cat noises*

@futurebird @DavidM_yeg Our girl definitely talks to us. There are very different sounds for different requests and comments on the service (or lack thereof). Unlike cats from the past she rarely wanders around muttering to herself. She’s quite pointed in most of her communications. We’re frequently sub-par servants, but she’s doing her best to train us properly.)

@futurebird @DavidM_yeg Our cat isn’t that complex, but she definitely makes specific sounds for particular requests, and occasionally will string several sounds together in such a way that it sounds like a sentence. Mow-wow. Wow!We think that it’s because we’ve always made a point of talking to her.

@futurebird Sometimes, a cat stares me deadass in the eye, while doing the thing that I said "NO!" about."Chu gon do bout it?" cat's eyebrows say.Anything which I will not get up for, is something which cat is allowed to do without limit.Nothing stopping cat, right? If that's not sass, what is?

@bytebro @futurebird I would get cats if one of my dogs wouldn't eat them. The other dog is totally fine with cats, and behaves as though she maybe spent a lot of time with cats prior to her rescue

@futurebird When our cat hears a particular family member’s door open, she runs into the corridor to see him and often speaks several complete sentences, and she almost always takes turns speaking. She definitely seems aware that it’s a thing even if she doesn’t have all the details ironed out.

@futurebird me and my fiance adopted 2 sisters. One took to me, one took to them. When their cat is mad at them, they suddenly like me more, when they are in the room.

@futurebird I feel like the sass is often in the facial expressions more than behavior or sounds over here.
