Aphid grazing rights law is some of the most complex law in the animal kingdom and it can take a colony the lifetime of multiple legal ants to resolve a case. But if you can understand Aphid law, it is said, you can understand ant culture.

Oh to be a studious legal ant finding an old case in the archives that shows that your queen's mother's sister's daughter first brought scale insects to the leaves off of the big branch with the knob six summers ago, and thus, (that colony being long gone) it should fall to your own sisters to graze their aphids there...Working into the night deep in the stacks under the oak roots... filing *tiny* legal briefs... so romantic.

@melivia Huge case, and I can see why you'd think it might apply but in this instance it was an obscure opinion taken from a case called Mutillidae v. Lasius-- from the days before wasp law and ant law were separated!

@futurebird if terrace ants were parasitic wasps we’d best start questioning exactly why we were suddenly getting so clumsy. They’d be rigging the economy somehow.
