Why oh why would NYC kids get obsessed with "stanley cups" (so much so that schools have banned them?)These are like... mugs designed for putting in the cup holders of SUVs ... something NYC kids never do. As water bottles they are annoying and unbalanced and fall over and spill (and break) apparently they got on everyone's nerves so much they've been banned. Trends man. They are so bizarre.

@queenofnewyork At least this only affected the lower school kids. The middle school and upper school kids think "stanley cups are ugly" and I kind of agree?IDK what media the 3rd graders are watching that made them obsessed with pink car mugs ... what is going on over there???

@futurebird The short answer is that Stanley, venerable thermos company, hired the chief marketer away from Crocs, who's engineered a combination celebrity-and-artificial-scarcity marketing attack that has proven to be extremely effective. Social engineering at its finest, really.https://www.inc.com/ali-donaldson/this-marketing-pro-got-crocs-on-every-celebrity-from-bad-bunny-to-justin-bieber-now-hes-the-one-behind-the-stanley-tumbler-you-cant-escape.html

NYC kids should be obsessed with IDK fashionable metrocard holders or sidewalk chalk or ... anything but car mugs the size of their little heads.

@diedofheartbreak @anarceus But they're only allowed to have water in them. Well until they were all banned because it just became too annoying.

@WesternInfidels This is 3rd graders mostly. I think you are correct that everyone else has moved on.

@queenofnewyork Thinking on it more I blame their parents. Some of them are probably messing around with these mugs and 3rd graders always want the strangest "grown up things" for reasons I can never understand.

@futurebird absolutely loved when they first got big on social media and then like a month later everybody discovered that you *do* in fact have to clean them and that if you don't they *will* get moldy and make you sick.
