@futurebird Fashion ads that advertise their fancy pairs of pants as "pant" still make me chortle. And they're implying the singular pant is interchangeable, so to speak, with the plural. If a=b, then b=a. So I'd guess glasses could cover a single lens, with the "pair" being the side stems? I've yet to fully fathom scissor, though. (Is 1/2 of a pair of scissors a scissor? What is that? The dictionary says "the meaning of scissor is scissors." Then there's the noun vs verb... I digress, lol.)
