So suddenly, Google has decided that my mailserver's PTR records aren't set up... and is rejecting all mail sent to Gmail users... when the PTRs bloody are set up & have been for yonks. For both IPv4 and IPv6. Google, what bullshit are you playing at? You haven't complained before... and I haven't changed anything. This reeks of a Gmail problem, not my problem. We need to knock #bigtech down a few dozen pegs.

@lightweight Would more people running their own mail servers help? Google shows more and more signs of not caring. They don't have to care, they are too big to care.

@lightweight @railmeat Sadly incremental isn't going to change it. The number of people/orgs self hosting needs to be very large, or at least lots of important orgs. Individuals doing it doesn't help that much, many big companies jumping ship from the big email providers would.

@LovesTha @railmeat all it's going to take is one (inevitable) big crisis of privacy, security, or data loss (or all the above) to change things. I'm just biding my time until that happens. Think CrowdStrike for #BigEmail

@lightweight @railmeat Yeah, outage or mass leak of emails can do it.At least if orgs were using self hosting but individuals were using ISP/gmail/et al then when your orgs email goes down your private email still works.

@lightweight @railmeat Governments requiring sensitive data be entirely sovereign might do it too.

Some years ago Russia did some tests where they cut their entire nation off from the rest of the internet for a few days. Turned out all sorts of stuff relied on foreign email services.

@lightweight @railmeat Could the US have a scandal of the FBI doing corporate for profit espionage via gmail do it too?
