Using Ubuntu I feel like just every other day I find something definably broken, and I just sigh because I COULD file it but every time I try to file an Ubuntu bug Ubuntu yells at me for filing it on the wrong component, but they don't explain what the correct component is, and if I go directly to the project with the problem and file there they say bugs that happen on Ubuntu should be filed with Ubuntu. I'm always hyped up to put effort into filing bugs but I need to feel like someone's reading

Problem today: Did the screenshot key combination. Requested a video. Enabled "show the cursor in the video". Took the video. The cursor, in the video, appeared in a fixed position in the bottom right of the video through the entire video, though in fact during recording the cursor was moving around ( see: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/32213 ). Where tf do I file this? It's all just GNOME to me. I don't know what parts of GNOME trigger when you press one key combination or another.

@mcc frankly, were there some kind of intermediate position for people who took in bug reports and properly directed them and cleaned them up so busy developers had an easier time digesting them and users had an easier time reporting them, i would enjoy doing such work. but i have basically never seen anywhere that even tries to make this position a thing. i'm not even sure what you'd call it
