@ocean I will die on the Saturn hill (with all the Japanese exclusives, especially the Capcom and SNK fighters).PS1 had loads and loads of games, so there was something for everyone. N64 was too expensive for me at the time, but have come to appreciate it. Still wasn’t my adolescence system.

@ocean i never had any of these so i'm just going to vote for nintendo 64 because of that time in third grade when i was told "8 and 8 went to the store to buy nintendo 64," and that lesson has been helpful my entire life.

@ocean@raru.re I imagine that's going to be the most popular opinion. A huge game catalog, cheap prices, CDs... but think about all the great exclusives in the N64. Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Goldeneye 007, Super Smash Bros, F-Zero X... The Saturn will be the least popular choice of course, but... SEGA Rally... Daytona USA... Sonic 3D Blast... Panzer Dragoon...

@enigmatico @ocean but technically the Saturn was a garbage heap, bc it was impossible to program for almost so most games run slow etc. that's also why it failed and why so few games.N64 was WAY more powerful then PS1 but crippled by lack of storage space hence no RPGs like ff 7 and tales of and xenogears and all the rest. Whereas ps1 had plenty of platformers, even if the graphics were worse. Plus N64 controller is horrid.Hence, PS1 it is XD and it even plays music CDs!

@MarkAssPandi @ocean I agree, the Gameboy advance was amazing https://youtu.be/9mUsgJ-HiDM?si=ZuMiRVR7A599U-DNBut it's not in the poll :(It also has a decent port of the first full pc tomb raider game, N64 didn't have that either right? XD

@ChristiJunior @ocean I enjoyed the coleco vision, even got hooked on a few games for a bit, but the NES was where i really fell in love with gaming.. metriod, zelda, dragon quest, final fantasy, etc, still loved D&D games on on the c64 too because ya could hexedit save files, hah. snes and genesis were fun, but then, when i finally got an amiga, i became way less interested in consoles, my lil brother got the playstation, and yeah, ff7 was grand, and streetfighter alpha was great on there .,.

@ocean I never had a Saturn, but I *was* a Sega owner from 1987-1995. At one time or other I had Sega Master System, then Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Sega CD (which was a Genesis add-on) and finally Sega 32X (which was also a Genesis add-on and tragically underrated and unsupported).I did have a friend who worked at a Babbages store at a local shopping mall, and when the Sega Saturn was first released he called me up to come in before hours and play the floor model, which was bundled with the original Virtua Fighter. I thought it was visually an impressive system, but the load times were way too long and I didn’t like the absence of backward-compatibility with the Genesis cartridge library. So that was the departure point for me from home video game consoles until a decade later when handhelds became resurgent.

@ins0mniak @ocean Dreamcast from what understand was a bigger success than Saturn, but it was cursed with bad timing in that it had to compete with the more powerful PS2 and eventually the even more powerful first Xbox. It’s a shame that Sega finally fugured themselves out too late.

@admin @ocean Yeah thats basically what happened. It had some cool stuff going on with it, people run online servers for some of the games to this very day.Sega was always cool and edgy even when they made a miss step. The ps2 was pretty dope when it came out but I waited like 2 years to get one because of dreamcast.

@ins0mniak @ocean Sega really had all the potential in the world, especially with the proprietary arcade library at their disposal. But they just didn’t know how to market their hardware, they made poor decisions in securing third-party support, and Sega of America and Sega of Japan were in perpetual war with each other. It’s too bad. They could have dominated the market even going back to 8-but era with their superior hardware, but they just didn’t have a clue about the non-programming side of the industry.

@admin @ocean I def agree with that. Man, sega genesis was an amazing console, it had such crystal clear audio. I had sega cd for a while and there where some great games for it but there should have been more, I feel like they rolled it out before really knowing what they wanted it to be.I used to play snatcher on it man, mindblowing for my young self.

@ocean i had a n64 around age 12. And I was the only one, all my friends had a ps1. I very much liked n64 (and less liked what I saw from the ps1 at friends places) and never had another console, so for over two decades, this had become somewhat a part of my internalised identity.recently I was cleaning up a place, and found a ps1 and two ps2's.so suddenly i have both a n64 and ps1, and i actually have more playstations than nintendo's :blobfoxowo:

@ocean I'm biased against PlayStation because my brother used it to play car games and sports games and I associated it with boring stuff, despite amazing titles like FF7 being on it.
