@ColesStreetPothole did you do that? Do you do that? I did target shooting when I was a teenager. I stopped upon going off to college because there was nowhere to shoot in Boston so I sold my bow to a friend. I ran into a high school friend a couple of years ago and he invited me to go off to the archery range with him. We never made good on that.

@sysop408 Yes, I do! Been doing it for almost two years now. And there were a few folks on here that I'd chat with about it, but now when I check the #archery hashtag, it's just dead, no recent posts. Either there's something wrong with my instance, or folks just stopped posting about it. 🤔 I find it very relaxing and a good way to socialize. 😎

@ColesStreetPothole what do you shoot with and where do you go? Indoor or outdoor? Interesting thing to just pick up. What got you to start? If I start up again, I’d be going back to something I used to do all the time growing up. I won an archery contest at summer camp when I was 12. That got me started and I got all my Jr High friends into it.

@ColesStreetPothole the closest I came to starting back up again was when I met some guy whose brother made gorgeous artisan wood compound target bows. I instantly wanted one, but knew I’d have no time to indulge.

@sysop408 I used to shoot as a kid. Not compete, just shoot at targets, objects, etc. Me and a couple friends, when we were really young, like 10, also used to make greenwood bows from tree limbs, got some of them to work pretty well. A few years ago, after playing Skyrim as an archer, I took my kids to a local range, and had a blast. So I went again. Then I went into the traditional archery rabbit hole online, wound up wanting to *make my own longbow*—so I did. 1/2

@sysop408 Now, I have three longbows, two of which I made, and four vintage recurve bows that I shoot at the range or outdoors. I don't compete (unless you count competing against myself), but just do it as a way to relax. I'm planning on making a third longbow—a recurve longbow.

@ColesStreetPothole Wow! Let's see some photos of your homemade bows! How long did it take you to make one and what kind of equipment did you need to do it? Were you already handy in woodworking? I couldn't even imagine making a flat spatula let alone a recurve bow.

@sysop408 I actually do not have a lot of good pictures of my bows. Here's one of me tillering the second bow I made, a 72" oak bow. I am an okay woodworker, so I just used hand tools—a saw, a spoke shave, some planes, a rasp, and a card scraper. It takes patience, that's all. I read a lot and watched a lot of videos first.
