If you are going to vote by mail, please mail your vote early. As soon as you get the ballot fill it out and send it back. Fill it out with care and read the directions carefully. I've been reading about a lot of legal fighting about how ballots will be counted. Republicans don't want ballots that arrive after election day to count. This ought not happen, but it's best to just get it over with.Abundance of caution.

@futurebird In Michigan you can track your vote and see when it arrives, too. Not sure about other states, but I plan to mail mine back in the next couple of weeks. It's nice to be able to see when it arrives.

@futurebird overseas voters in some states can avoid USPS mail delay issues by sending their ballot via fax, which (in Sarasota county at least) generates an immediate reply from the board of elections acknowledging receipt.

@futurebird (In all seriousness, a few years ago there was someone doing the opposite nearby here in Portland: they were sitting out with a box and balloons and stickers proclaiming Democratic candidates, and a sign saying they'd collect and turn in your ballot for you. It really smelled to me like a tar pit scam for making Democratic ballots disappear. Several people called the police, but of course no laws were being broken.)

@futurebird I learned the other day that the individual voting record on line is not accurate per the registrar's office. For example, my spouse voted in June primary but he records do not show that only that ballot was issued. My record is correct.
