When talking about 'American Freedom' maybe it's also an idea to talk about all the ingredients that are LEGAL in the US but ILLEGAL in most of the world because it's basically poisonIt's insane how much difference there is in ingredients between the US and Europe, and this is not a positive thing for the US"Freedom" also means companies taking advantage left and right. And it's impossible to keep track of it all these days, that's why we have rules and laws on such things

@stux It's always important to remember that "this country [🇺🇸] was stolen fair & square" Major losers have been people of color, immigrants when they arrive (unless they are people of color), the poor (especially if they are people of color or 'talk funny')... I think you get the point. BTW this frame of reference forms the strength & background of #MAGA. (But you knew that).😜

@stux That is the point. The more inefficient, the more chaotic, the more the rich can get richer and the poor (and now diminishing) middle class get poorer.

@stux I always find it bizarre when customers get upset that I don't want to violate the food safety laws we do have. It's like they want me to poison them.

@stux I think about this, and talk about it a lot. The US concept of “freedom” is really just free from any and all responsibility, legal or otherwise. What worries me is that I see how hard the US is trying to export that idea to the rest of the world and, lately, seems to be doing well at it.

@chris totally! Most laws are there for a reason, freedom isn’t always great and has many downsides

@stux @chris With freedom comes responsibility and accountability. That's where many people struggle.

@stux @chris It's largely the difference as I understand it between social liberalism and economic liberalism. Economic liberalism is generally the idea that nobody should be limited by the government, and therefore the rich can do whatever they like. Social liberalism is the idea that everyone should have a good level of freedom, and sometimes the government might need to step in to lift some people up or stop others getting too powerful.
