@vascorsd The future of the internet is AI-created advertising being watched by AIs, while other AIs are doing copyright strikes on the AIs, as everyone and their sister keeps blocking all advertising. We have only one world to live on and we're boiling it alive for this glorious vision of the future.Great.

@PatrickoftheG@mastodon.social @vascorsd@mastodon.social everyone and their sister keeps blocking all advertising.Looking at my actual sisters (and the rest of my family), ad blocking isn't all that universal. I wish it was more common, but in the vast majority of cases among "normal" people, they just accept the ads. Its part of the experience of being online to be blasted by ads constantly now. Only a small portion of tech-minded people actually put in the time and effort to block as many ads as they possibly can.

@tyil >put in the time and effort to block as many ads as they possibly can.It really doesn't take that much effort to just not run proprietary JavaScript and therefore not be assaulted with proprietary ads.

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com So you agree it costs time and effort, as blocking proprietary Javascript is not the default.

@tyil about:config -> javascript.enabled=false is not something I would regard as something that costs time and effort, as it takes all of 10 seconds. If you regard that as too much time and effort, you're in for a big shock when it comes to computing. On free browsers like GNU icecat, not executing proprietary JavaScript is indeed the default.

@Suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com I'm not saying its "too much", just that there is some effort and time required, which you acknowledge as true.
