@RustyCrab to save a rust file one must provide an email address. A cron job will continuous email you asking you to improve the code.

@cajax I thought java got immediately sucked up in the business world due to promotion from Sun and having basically no competition

@RustyCrab I don't know the history honestly I just looked at its prevalence in schools and came to that conclusion but yeah that makes more sense with what I've heard

@RustyCrab I've said it a thousand times but programming language discourse is dominated by junior-level programmers. some are actually new and some are perpetual dabblers who hop from tool to tool, arguing about which is best, rather than just picking something that seems tolerable and building stuff with itsee also: linux distro hoppers, gun dorks who constantly switch pistols but can't shoot worth a shit, etc

@deprecated_ii @RustyCrab amen. Managers don't care about code. They only ask "does it work?"."Uhm, not yet. B-but the refactoring I'm doing will allow us in the fut-""MAKE IT WORK!"

This is wrong in detail, but you're getting the gist of it.Java had lots of hype because1) "internet!!!!11~`~!!"2) "cross platfomr!!11~!1~12~~!"But yes, "JavaScript" was so named because the hype was so all-encompassing.@cajax @RustyCrab

"Write once, run everywhere!" was always bullshit, but people were so hungry for a solution that this concept was swallowed whole. It kind of, sort of worked. And in the time that it took for people to catch on that there existed many caveats to "write once, run everywhere", Java got completely embedded into the enterprise world. And once that happened, it was too late.@cajax @RustyCrab

@cajax @RustyCrab Java became popular because OOP is easy to understand for low IQ people and it’s crossplatform.Rust is meant to be the most reliable language possible, because there is things that require such strictness like rocket engineering.

@asa @RustyCrab @cajax Low iq people do not get OOP. Grading code in college for a mid level cs course and seeing all their methods marked static was eye opening

@sun@shitposter.world @RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co if they wanted to have to perfect their code perfectly then they could've just written haskell. but that would take actual work to learn instead of memorizing trivia so now we have rust in the kernel

@libtarddotsodotsix @RustyCrab @cajax @asa Would these low IQ people more easily use OOP framerworks designed (and coded) by others?

@libtarddotsodotsix @RustyCrab @asa I don't think you're necessarily right about them being low-IQ, they probably just don't care and are there to keep mom and dad happy. Someone with a truly low IQ wouldn't be able to make it in university, even now-- excepting minorities, obviously.

@ThatWouldBeTelling @RustyCrab @libtarddotsodotsix @asa probably more easily than anything else, but nobody with an IQ under 100 is doing ANY programming at all. Maybe even not below 115 or so. The problem isn't low-IQ people, it's people who don't give a fuck about things like craftsmanship or the better functioning of society as a whole. Low-IQ people are sitting around in ghettos wondering how they're gonna afford their next bottle of old crow while their children slowly starve to death.

@libtarddotsodotsix @RustyCrab @cajax @asa Dmitry Vorontsov included an anecdote about a cohort mate in his memoir "Notes of a Rocket Designer". The guy presented a diploma thesis of a draft design of an ICBM. The 2nd stage included no less than 19 spherical helium tanks. The guy got the grades and yet had no clue.
