Well, I guess Western democracies have just ruled that carrying out a supply-chain attack on personal technology to indiscriminately mass murder people is perfectly fine.Thankfully, only Israel can use such a tactic to murder the Browns.Oh, wait…#IsraeliTerrorism #Israel #terrorism #oagerAttack

@aral Which raises the questions: How many untriggered devices are still out there? How secure are battery supply-chains? How did Israel get access?#pager #stateterror

@aral Well that answers a couple of questions: Yes there are more booby-trapped devices out there, and Israel has access to the battery supply chain. The only good news is that they apparently haven’t figured out a way to make standard batteries explode.Anyone know what make/model of batteries were compromised?#stateterrorism #pagers https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/lebanon-attacks-pagers-radios-1.7326750

@adamvs1 Could be batteries, could be multiple supply chain hacks. Unless I missed it, that article doesn’t specifically cite that it was the batteries.

@aral It was definitely not batteries (by themselves). Latest @404mediaco podcast described it in depth, but the takeaway is that no popular battery chemistry just explodes.TL;DR: Li-ion batteries need to overheat, get into thermal runaway conditions (meaning more heat generated), burst into flames, and then explode. Not mentioning the time this takes, when you can notice the heat, as, IIRC, iFixit CEO takeaway was: 3rd degree burns yes, fatalities no.@adamvs1
